Pre-registration under way for Blytheville schools

Friday, July 1, 2011

Pre-registration for the 2011-12 school year began several weeks ago at five of the seven schools in the Blytheville School District, and it will continue throughout most of July. Registration is also scheduled for August at each of the schools, but the principals are encouraging parents to register their children as soon as they can.

Parents and legal guardians of students who will attend Blytheville Kindergarten Center and its ABC Preschool Program are urged to pre-register their children in the BKC office as soon as possible.

A child entering the ABC Preschool Program must be 4 years old on or before Aug. 1 and meet other specific requirements. Forty preschool openings are available, and full registration must be completed before the child is enrolled in the program. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1.

The BKC office, inside the school at 1107 Byrum Road on the elementary school complex, is open each Monday through Wednesday during July from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.

Also needed at pre-registration will be the child's proof of birth, two proofs of address, record of a physical examination within the past year and shot record, and the child's Social Security card. If the child's Social Security number is not available, the parent or guardian may request the school district to assign their child a nine-digit number.

Pre-registration in the district's other three elementary schools is also ongoing through July. Parents of first- and second-graders may register their children for Blytheville Primary School in the school office, at 1103 Byrum Road, any time Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Registration will also be Aug. 3-5 in the office, each day from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Also needed will be the child's proof of birth, two proofs of address, record of a physical examination within the past year and shot record, and the child's Social Security card for the registration.

Students entering the first grade at BPS must be 6 years old on or before Aug. 1.

Pre-registration for third- and fourth-graders at Central Elementary School, at the corner of Division and Moultrie, and fifth and sixth graders at Blytheville Intermediate School, at 216 E. Moultrie, is also each Monday through Thursday in the respective school offices from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Regular registration is also Aug. 3-5 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Parents of fifth- and sixth-graders are asked to bring to registration at BIS updated information about their children, including home address and telephone number, proof of birth and shot record.

Students entering the seventh and eighth grades at Blytheville Middle School, at 700 West Chickasawba, will register Aug. 3-4, each day from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. At that time, the student and parents will receive the student's class schedule, school handbook and necessary forms, teacher-student compact, Smart Core curriculum, locker assignment, lunch form, school calendar, information on the district's special education program, and Parent-Teacher Organization and parent volunteer sign-up information.

Registration for students who will attend Blytheville High School, at 600 North 10th, will be Aug. 2-5, each day in the counselors' offices from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Seniors will register Aug. 3, juniors will register Aug. 4, sophomores are scheduled for Aug. 5 and freshmen Aug. 6. Students who are new to BHS will register July 26-27, each day from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.

Open enrollment for 2011-12 at Blytheville Charter School and its Alternative Learning Education Program will be July 18-22. Parents and legal guardians of prospective students are asked to call the school's office, at 415 Tennessee, at 870-763-7191 for an appointment to register children for possible enrollment. Both the parent or legal guardian must be present at the meeting. Parents of students entering the seventh and eighth grades must bring their child's 2010-11 report card. Parents of students entering the 9th-12th grades must bring a copy of the child's high school transcript and 2010 report card. Additional registration dates may be scheduled later.
