Museum seeking black history artifacts

Friday, January 27, 2012

The Delta Gateway Museum is looking to borrow objects, artifacts, heirlooms and/or collectibles for a Black History Month exhibit.

The museum's "Heirloom Saturdays at the Museum" theme for February is the Civil Rights Movement.

"We are concentrating on that era, but are also seeking a wide range of objects illustrating Black History," museum director Leslie Hester said. "We would like to borrow several objects to put on exhibit for the entire month."

"Heirloom Saturdays at the Museum" will be from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Feb. 11. The speaker will be Vera James, creator of the Wiley Center Mini Black History Museum here in Blytheville.

The general public is invited to come to the event with their own heirlooms and collectibles for a show-and-tell session.

"We would love to see and hear about local and regional heritage collections," Hester said.
