HD offers a widescreen format, similar to a movie theater, with distinctly sharper images and better sound quality than standard definition television.
With the addition of these channels, customers can watch everything from NASCAR races and news updates to science fiction and reality TV -- all in a wide-screen format that allows for a crisper, clearer picture.
The new channels will be available in February and bring the HD channels available to 34 with plans for additional channel launches later in 2012.
Along with these new HD channels, Ritter has signed a new three-year contract with the ABC Little Rock station as well as having added the Style Network and Antenna TV to its digital level of service.
Speed Channel has also moved to the expanded basic line-up.
"These new HD channels are just the latest in product and service enhancements with more planned for later in the year," said vice president of marketing Susan Christian. "It's our priority to bring the most advanced technology to our customers so they can continue to be connected to the latest programming, entertainment and each other."
Now, Ritter customers can watch more of a variety of programs in high definition, which it says offers substantially higher resolutions than traditional standard definition.
In fact, programs viewed in HD are almost five times as sharp as conventional broadcasts, the company says.
