"Tree of Memories" returns to local funeral home

Friday, December 7, 2012

The 15th Annual Tree of Memories Memorial Service will take place Saturday evening at Cobb Funeral Home on Main Street.

The funeral home will place an angel ornament on a special Christmas tree for every person whose funeral was held this year. Ornaments are also available free of charge to the families of anyone who passed away this year, whether or not their services were handled by Cobb. After Christmas, families can pick up the ornaments to keep.

Paula Crowder, funeral director with Cobb, said her company wants to do something to give back to the community.

"We try to do something to help people get through the holiday season," she said. "We try to make it an encouraging event, bring back good memories. And we want the families to know that we haven't forgotten them -- even if their loss was 10 or 20 years ago. Everyone still thinks of their loved ones this time of year, and we just want people to know that we think of them too."

This year, the candlelight service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, inside the funeral home's chapel, with special speaker Danny Pankey, pastor of Ruddle Road Church of God. Refreshments will be served afterward in the lounge.
