Some schools open on Monday; city offices closed

Saturday, January 19, 2013

Tuesday's winter storm resulted in area-wide school closings forcing many schools to remain open Monday, despite it being Martin Luther King day.

Armorel and Gosnell schools will have classes Monday, but Blytheville will not. South Pemiscot will not be open, but the Cooter school district will be open Monday to make up for the day missed last week.

Blytheville superintendent Richard Atwill told the CN the district has certain dates allocated for making up missed days on account of bad weather. Blytheville will make up the missed day on Feb. 18.

Meanwhile, Blytheville and Gosnell's city halls will be closed Monday, Jan. 21 in Observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. day. There will be no garbage pickup Monday in Gosnell. Pickup will resume on Tuesday, and will run both Monday and Tuesday's routes for Gosnell.
