Final day for the IRS tax is Monday

Sunday, September 29, 2013

Monday will be the final day for Blytheville's 1-cent IRS tax, a temporary tax that began in July 2012 to pay a multimillion dollar payroll tax debt.

On Tuesday, the city sales tax rate will drop to 1.25 percent and become lower than those of Gosnell (1.5 percent) and Manila (1.75 percent) as well as Jonesboro (1.5 percent), West Memphis (1.5 percent) and Marion (1.5 percent).

Paragould, located in Greene County, will continue to have a lower rate at .75 percent.

Notably, Mississippi County's tax rate is 2 percent, versus Craighead's 1, Crittenden's 1.75 and Greene's 1.75.

The state tax rate is now 6.5 percent, after the 10-year half-cent Amendment 1 tax became effective in July.

The total sales tax Blytheville patrons will pay beginning Tuesday is 9.75 percent, when including the county and state tax rates.
