A 9-year-old boy was discovered with a handgun at Blytheville Primary School Wednesday.
According to the Blytheville Police Department, the weapon was discovered when the student allegedly tried to pass the gun to another student, who refused to take it. Nearby students alerted staff members and the gun was secured until officers could arrive.
BPD Chief, Ross Thompson, said the gun was apparently brought from home but did not seem to be intended to harm any students, faculty or staff.
"While something like this is always dangerous, at this time there is no indication that anyone was directly threatened or being targeted," Thompson said.
The case was turned over to Mississippi County Juvenile Authorities and reported to the DHS hotline.
