Caruthersville city worker stabbed by citizen

Friday, June 27, 2014

CARUTHERSVILLE -- A Caruthersville man is in custody at the Pemiscot County Jail with no bond after allegedly stabbing a Caruthersville city employee multiple times.

On Thursday, Carusthersville Police Officers were dispatched to Caruthersville City Hall in reference to a man brandishing a knife. Before officers arrived on the scene, reports came in that the man had stabbed a city employee, Elizabeth Hardesty of Caruthersville, and fled the scene.

After canvasing the area, initially looking for a black male, CPD officers made contact with a white male near city hall who identified himself as Richard Jaworski. Jaworski admitted to stabbing the city employee, telling officers she was responsible for shutting off his water.

Jaworski was taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree burglary. He is scheduled to appear in court before Judge Byron D. Luber on Monday.

Hardesty was flown to The Regional Medical Center in Memphis to be treated for numerous stab wounds and was listed in serious condition Friday morning.
